Health Canada has published Winter Sports Safety Tips to keep our children safe.
Children can strangle on a cord or a scarf. Therefore it is recommended to remove all cords and drawstrings off their clohtes. Traditional scarves are also not recommended.
Safety Tips
Keep children warm, dress in layers and make sure their head and necks are covered by a hat and a neck warmer.
On sunny days put sunscreen on their skin
Check children's equipment to make sure that it fits and is in good condition.
Wear a helmet when tobogganing, sledding, or skating.
Never skate near open water on lakes or rivers.
